In order to have your criminal background check accepted by the Korean Immigration Department it will need to be Apostille which is essentially an international type notary service that is approved by the US government. Here are the steps in getting a background check and getting an apostille.
- Get background check and have it notarized
- Go to local police station
- Get a background check and ask to have it notarized (police stations have a notary public in house)
- This will generally take about 1-2 days
- After obtaining background check you will need to get an apostille from your state’s state department. (there are 2 ways to do this)
- Slow Way: You will have to mail your background check into the State Department with required fees and documents filled out (I did not do this so I do not know where to find these documents). This will take a few weeks.
- Fast Way: If you live near your State Department like I did, you can simply walk right on in during business hours and will have your apostille in less than 20 minutes (State Department for CA is in Sacramento near the state capitol).
- Now you have a groovy background check with an apostille.
