Packing to move abroad can be somewhat stressful but knowing what is easy to get and what is hard to get makes the packing list a little bit easier to narrow down. Essentially I will just be listing things that might be hard to find or expensive. Most of this will have to do with clothing just because Korean’s are differently built than Western folk. If your a guy clothing will be a bitch for shirts (shirts will always be to small I’m a Large in the states but here I am a XXL), pants, shoes, and even hats. If your a girl and you have any figure other than slender (i.e. you have any boobs or hips/booty) you will have trouble finding things that fit. I have also heard and noticed that Korean’s don’t expect you to have an extensive wardrobe, so no need to bring an insane amount of things. Also if you have a certain brand of any type of bathroom supply that you must have bring plenty…it may be awhile before you can find a place that will supply you.
Items to Pack
- Clothes
- Shoes (they will be impossible to find if you have big feet. I have 12s and I can’t even find flip flops)
- Plenty of jeans or other types of pants
- Shorts (Korean’s don’t wear shorts)
- Shirts (they will be hard to find in your size)
- Bring at least one set of formal wear for graduations, etc…
- Hats if you wear them
- Heavy jacket for the Winter (it gets cold here)
- Light sweaters or hoodies for layering
- Guys:
- Dress shirts if you need them for work
- Boxers (no dryers here so your boxer briefs will never be snug)
- Girls:
- If you have boobs larger then Bs bring plenty of well fitting bras (they will be very hard to find here)
- If you need anything like thongs I hear they are really hard to come by here (I have no personal experience with this one)
- Toiletries
- If you like certain brands of anything bring it
- Deodorant (Korean’s don’t sweat therefore their deodorant is not up to Western strength standards)
- Perfume or Cologne
- Miscellaneous
- Power adapter
- Korea uses 220V so a converter may be necessary
- If all your bringing is a laptop check the power brick they generally can handle up to 240V and will therefore only need an adapter and not a converter
- Power adapter
Hopefully more to come later.
