ESL Resume

How to write an ESL resume

Basics:

  1. Include a professional passport sized photo of yourself (make sure you smile)
    • Your employer is going to use this photo to gauge what kind of person you are
    • If your a guy with long hair pull it back
    • Wear shirt and tie if a guy, girls something nice
    • Generally look as friendly as possible
  2. Include at the top: current mailing address, phone number, nationality, and native language.
  3. Outline any teaching experience you have had (if you have trained someone how to cook in a kitchen that works, if you taught summer camp that is golden, etc…)
  4. Include any study abroad or traveling experience that you have had.
    • It is reassuring to an employer that you have traveled abroad. They don’t want to hire someone who is going to get home sick and bail on their contract.
  5. Include a cover letter with your resume and target it for the job your applying for.
  6. Also I asked my recruiter what was key to have on a resume and she said
In my opinion, there’s no specific form to a good resume/cover letter. Honestly a photo looking professional is rather more important than resume/cover letter. Teaching experience is not essential when a teacher applies for a job but if she/he shows out-going personality and enthusiasm about teaching on the resume/cover letter, an employer will not hesitate but choose him/her.
